Attendance
‘It’s Not OK to be Away’ is a program designed to reduce the level of absenteeism of students in schools. It was developed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Its driving focus is to ensure kids aren’t missing days of school unnecessarily. Children need to be at school when they are fit and healthy as there is much learning going on every single day.
Schools with a poor history of absenteeism (just like us) are obliged to do something about it. This program is as simple as making the families aware of the issue, and helping them understand the negative impact regularly missing school can have on their learning.
It’s Not OK to be Away IS....

It’s Not OK to be Away is NOT...
Teachers and parents have a united responsibility to ensure students understand the reality of this program.
Teachers will be initiating these discussions in classrooms and further conversations about the importance of health and well-being at home will really help. We look forward to seeing a big improvement in our school attendance data from this year.
